Avira AntiSpam is a worldwide unique service that provides reliable protection against spam emails and also enables identification and categorization of all mass mails. In addition, Avira AntiSpam also detects potentially dangerous content in emails that may cause changes to the system.

Avira AntiSpam dispenses with classical methods of spam detection and uses in particular the mass mail characteristic of spam to clearly identify them as such. With a combined key method, a fingerprint of each incoming email is generated which enables identification as a mass mail. This fingerprint is sent to a database, which checks this code and responds with a category. This information is returned before the email reaches the mailbox of the recipient. The whole process takes only fractions of a second. As the code transmitted is only an extract of the whole mail of only a few bytes, the method does not allow conclusions to be drawn regarding its content. In this way, every mail is identified and allocated to a certain category based on the identification, for example “General mass mailing”, “Spam email” or “Clean email”. Users can therefore individually decide what is to be done with these categorized mails.
